PERHIMPUNAN RAYA 100,000 RAKYAT
Perutusan [11]
Assalamu'alaikum dan Salam Reformasi,
Noor (Presiden, PAS), YB Haji Mustafa Ali (Naib-Presiden, PAS), YB Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (Presiden, keADILan), Dr. Chandra Muzaffar (Timbalan Presiden, keADILan), Sdra.
The sacking of Anwar as Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy President of the ruling United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) and his subsequent arrest, assault and imprisonment are tantamount to a travesty of justice. He has been subjected to farcical trials which have outraged the international judicial and legal fraternity. It is obvious to all and sundry that Anwar is a victim of malicious, vicious political persecution. He posed a challenge to Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s authoritarian might and the corruption and cronyism that taint his regime. This is why he had to be removed from position and power. This is why he languishes in prison today. This is why the international community has to respond to the injustice perpetrated against the man."
105. Hjh Fuziah menambah: "Anwar was a good and capable leader with a sincere commitment to the well-being of the people, especially the poor and the marginalized. It explains why the nation was shocked when he was expelled from public office. Malaysians had been eagerly awaiting the day when he would succeed the present Prime Minister in the normal political process, and we still feel very emphatically that he is the best candidate for the post. As women – and we are confident that we speak on behalf of an overwhelming majority of Malaysian women – we were shocked and appalled at the injustice and sheer cruelty inflicted upon Anwar and consequently also on his family."
107. Dr Xavier Jayakumar, seorang ahli MPT Parti keADILan Nasional dalam rencananya "Perpaduan Malaysia" menyatakan: "To talk only on unity within a race –(rather than between the races) is the wrong path to take! We should be teaching our children about Malaysia, about the cultures and languages of all the races. Teach them about trust and how to live together. Unity talk only within a race will give rise to fear and threaten the other races."
108. Beliau menambah: "There are so many things that need our urgent attention: the racial imbalance in the civil service, problems in the Judiciary, the Police Act, the plight of the marginalised (regardless of race), make parliament more accountable, monthly wages, civil liberties, the problem of dubious bailouts . .. . the list is endless. And yet we sit around talking about unity! "So let us not talk about Malay Unity when all Malaysians are not included. Feelings of oneness can only come when there is goodness and fairplay. It cannot be created by legislation, mere words or even by force. Let’s begin this millennium with a wholistic idea of unity – Malaysia for all Malaysians."
109. Menyentuh isu perpaduan, demokrasi dan hak rakyat, Sdr Muzaffar Tate dalam terbitan ALIRAN Monthly menyingkap kembali perhimpunan di Lebuhraya KESAS pada 5 November lalu dengan tajuk "Without Exaggeration Reflections on the "Illegal Gatherings" in the Kelang Valley on 5 November 2000 Beliau menafikan bahawa rakyat yang turun ke Lebuhraya KESAS sebagai golongan fanatik yang tidak bertanggungjawab terhadap negara, sebaliknya Sdr. Muzaffar Tate menegaskan: "To the contrary, we were a gathering of thinking Malaysians who are deeply concerned by the way in which our fundamental rights as citizens have been steadily eroded under the Mahathir regime. We did not come to contest the will of the majority of the people as expressed in the last general election, but to demand the restoration of our civic rights - a matter which should be of concern to all Malaysians who believe in democracy. We did not come armed with sticks and parangs (machetes); our only weapon was a small round pink badge with the words Kembalikan Hak Rakyat (Restore the People’s Rights) inscribed upon it, which quite a number of us wore."
110. Turut menarik adalah komentar Anil Netto juga dalam ALIRAN Monthly dengan tajuk Driving for Democracy Reformasi "takes over" the Kesas Highway. Katanya: "History being made. We were no where near the ceramah site. But no one seemed to mind too much. Something miraculous had happened and we knew we were witnessing – and were indeed a part of – history being made. A horrendous traffic jam had suddenly been transformed into an impromptu highway reformasi demonstration! People all along the highway were revelling in Malaysia’s longest demonstration – surely something for the Malaysia Book of Records – and relishing this overwhelming display of People Power. The People had “taken over” the Kesas highway.
111. Tambahnya: "No matter that most of the reformasi supporters could not be at the actual ceramah (forum) site. There, the leaders of the four main opposition parties - Anwar’s wife Wan Azizah Wan Ismail of keADILan (the National Justice Party), Fadzil Noor of PAS (the Islamic Party), Lim Kit Siang of the Democratic Action Party, and Syed Husin Ali of Parti Rakyat Malaysia (Malaysian People’s Party) - were delivering speeches. As soon as they had finished, police fired tear gas into the crowd"
112. Lebih menarik adalah apa yang dinyatakan oleh Anil dalam penutupnya " One thing was clear that afternoon. Those who felt that reformasi would fade away with time had been proven wrong in a way that could not possibly have been more emphatic."
